Vantastival Music Festival 2013

Vantastival is a family-friendly festival which takes place over the May Bank Holiday Weekend.
Three stages of live music and entertainment host up to 70 acts over the course of the weekend, while a range of activities focusing on the campervan lifestyle bring an extra dimension to the only festival of its kind in Ireland.
Other attractions include gourmet food stalls, festival traders, scheduled kids’ activities, documentary cinema, art, craft and theatre, ensuring that Vantastival has something for everyone, with or without a campervan!

Traditional & Folk Music Weekend

A Traditional and folk weekend with musicians from all over including students from colleges in Sweden and Northern Ireland.
There will be the annual Charity Walk for Cystic Fibrosis on the Sunday with barbeque afterwards.

A two day celebration of fine food and local produce.
Set in the idyllic surroundings of the Mediaeval village of Carlingford, all the restaurants, bars and café's will provide visitors to the village a taste of the wonderful range of cuisine on offer, in a veritable market place of little tents and stalls. Cooley Coast Run
Friday 17th May
Cooley Peninsula Coastline
The third annual OpenHydro Cooley Coast Run has been confirmed for Friday 17th May.
This is a 12.5k Road Race & a 10k run/walk along Cooley’s famous coast line, taking in the wonderful scenery of Carlingford Lough and the Mourne & Cooley mountains.
Both the 12.5k and the 10k will start and finish at the grounds of Cooley Kickhams GFC. Both races will start at 7pm sharp. The event was a great success last year with over 400 people taking part.

The Carlingford National Poultry Races

The Carlingford National Poultry Races have been rescheduled for Sunday 19th May at 2.30 at the Green opposite the Sailing Club beside the Leprechaun and Fairy Cavern on Ghan Road
The area that hosts the National Leprechaun Hunt is 'laying' on a day at the races Easter Egg style. The races are open to anything that lays an egg - The Easter National Poultry Races are on! The sane and insane are invited to watch chickens, roosters, ducks and geese race to the finish line on the Village Green in the picturesque town of Carlingford in County Louth on Easter Monday April 1st 2013 at 2.00pm

Carlingford has a very active pipe band that have played internationally and nationally, as a result of the band's cooperation to participate in outside and overseas events, the local band will host it's own piping festival.

The Táin March
Thursday 6th June until Sunday 9th June
Beginning in Ardee and ending in Carlingford on the Cooley Peninsula
The Tain March is a 4 day event that recreates the march of Queen Maeve of Connaught from Tulsk in Co. Roscommon to Cooley in Co. Louth to capture the Brown Bull of Cooley.
On Thurs at 4.30pm an army replicating the army of Queen Maeve of Connaught, will gather and camp at the Ford in Ardee Co.Louth, to re-enact the battle between great friends ,Ferdia and and Cuchulainn . On Friday they will march to Tallanstown and on to Knockbridge Co. Louth, site of Cuchulainn's death ,arriving at 7pm to be met by the celtic warriors of Knockbridge blocking the path of the approaching army.
On Saturday June 9th they will march from Knockbridge and arrive to the outskirts of Dundalk at 2pm .Here the army will move to the great plaza in Dundalk Centre ,to the iron age emcampment for a re-enactment of the Táin, and later march to an encampment situated at Bellurgan Park On Sunday , with foot soldiers and mounted warriors they will cross the Cooley mountains from Glenmore into Carlingford .They will be fed with salted bread ,a Celtic custom that ensures no fights will break out among the warriors, while there. A great feast will follow in Carlingford before they set off in search of the Brown Bull. The Tain Bo Cuailgne (The Cattle Raid of Cooley) is Irelands most famous saga.

Walk in solidarity with people affected by poverty and injustice around the world in the new and improved event through the Mourne & Cooley Mountains on Saturday June 15th. Every step you take in the new 25km route or the more challenging 50km event will help make a positive difference, from emergency support in times of crisis to long-term development projects, along with campaigning that helps people speak out together.
Gather your team of three to six people together and raise vital funds in this fun event that finishes with a big party in Carlingford. Every great achievement begins with a small step.

Carlingford Lough Maritime Festival
Saturday 15th & Sunday 16th June
The Heritage village of Greenore, Carlingford, Warrenpoint, Killowen and Kilkeel on the shores of Carlingford Lough
"An Emigration Re-Enactment" Killowen Historical Society and Greenore Historical Association will host an Emigration Re-Enactment including music, singing, poetry and storytelling.
The event, an emigration re-enactment organised by the Greenore Historical Association and the Killowen Historical Society to coincide with the Carlingford Lough Maritime Festival will see a tall ship, sail into the Lough as far as Newry Canal. With folk singers from Killowen and residents from both sides of the Lough recounting stories of those who left to seek a better life on ships which set sail from Greenore and Warrenpoint it will be a poignant reminder of how emigration has played such a large role in Irish society down the years.

THE 2013 NATIONAL CYCLING CHAMPIONSHIPS
Thursday 20th June until Sunday 23rd June
Carlingford on the Cooley Peninsula
Dundalk's Cuchulainn Cycling Club are the 2013 hosts of the Championships. Comprising both a road race and time trial, the National Championships are Ireland's most prestigious cycling event.
The Elite race will attract Ireland's top cyclists including Tour de France stars Nicholas Roche and Dan Martin, Olympic Stars Martin Irvine and David McCann. The riders will do battle for the right to wear the prestigious National Champions Green Jersey for the next year and more importantly in the Tour De France which will be starting the following weekend. Meanwhile the ladies race will say World Championship medalist Caroline Ryan in the thick of the action, battling with the defending champion Siobhan Hogan of Cork.

Carlingford Lough Endurance Challenge (CLEC)

Competitors from all over Ireland and beyond will vie for places in the 12th 'CLEC' multi-endurance event.
The Carlingford Lough Endurance Challenge or ‘CLEC’ is Ireland’s longest running multi-sport event, which traverses the local Cooley Mountains and navigates Carlingford Lough in Co. Louth and involves Trail Running, Mountain Biking and Sea-Kayaking.

James Gallier Day

Born in Ravensdale in 1798 James Gallagher {alias Gallier} became 'the father of architecture' in New Orleans where the old City Hall is named in his honour. We invite the Irish diaspora in New Orleans to visit Ravensdale on 24th July where we will tour his birthplace, buildlings linked to or built by him and the family buriel plot all of which survive to this day.

Zoë Conway and John Mc Intyre featuring special guests.
Zoë and John are a folk duo from Ireland. They tour all over the world playing an exciting blend of eclectic fiddle and guitar music, bringing to the stage sympathetic arrangements of traditional Irish music, compositions and songs, old and new.
