American President Joe Biden
visits Carlingford Castle

The main event this month was the visit from the American President Joe Biden.

A huge security operation kicked into place, when it was announced officially on Monday that the President would be have a private tour of Carlingford Castle. An 'Advance Team' from the American Embassy managed the visit and choreographed the event.
Gerry Hoey and Yvonne Keenan Ross were chosen by the Embassy to conduct the tour. Gerry shared his expert knowledge of the history of the castle and Yvonne discussed the links to the Presidents ancestors journey from Warrenpoint to America.

The Carlingford Pipe Band played on the Presidents arrival and then again inside the castle after the tour. They play a piece composed by David McCloskey called 'Bidens Return'. The President was delighted and took time to chat to all the members of the Pipe Band.

People lined the road in Carlingford to get a glimpse of the President. Waiting for hours in the rain and the cold, to show their support and loyalty to President Biden. There were reporters and journalists from all over the world in Carlingford in the days leading up to the visit and on the day. Putting Carlingford on the world stage. After all the excitement, preparation and build up the President said good bye and went into Dundalk for a walk about in Clanbrassil Street.

Hard to imagine a more spectacular line-up of legendary artists from the Irish traditional music scene than our guests for the opening concert. It’s as if the National Concert Hall has come to Carlingford - we are so pleased and proud to welcome one of the most influential partnerships in Irish music over many years, composer Shaun Davey and singer Rita Connolly, joined on stage by none other than Donal Lunny and Cora Venus Lunny along with outstanding musician, conductor and choir master, David Brophy. This will be one to remember.
